  1. They let you bring that Apple keyboard in there? Are the dual monitors hooked up to a single machine?

  2. The Apple keyboard is great, except for the way the number pad forces me to shift my hands left. I have one at home too, and will probably get a second one for work to replace the big black split-hands thing, which I can barely manage to type on. Nobody cares what you bring in – I’ve seen people taking notes on MacBooks in meetings.

    No dual-monitor setup, I just have two machines. I’m not sure why they bothered giving me the second one, though, since it seems to be nearly impossible to use one machine for development and the other for testing, and everyone looks at me like I come from another planet when I talk about doing so. Apparently standard practice here is to do all your actual work on one machine, and reserve the other one for email.

  3. UGH, I hate those split hands keyboards. They are incredibly uncomfortable and I can’t type worth a darn on them.

  4. Is that “Refactoring” by Martin Fowler in the bookshelf? If yo, you’ve got a lot of work in front of you :)

  5. Yes, that’s the Fowler book. I haven’t referred to it in a while, but it definitely changed the way I think about software development.

    There will definitely be a lot of refactoring work to do. Right now I’m still just learning how to get around the code base.
